Soldiers recognized for excellence in security

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Two Kentucky National Guard Soldiers were recognized for their work in establishing an outstanding physical security program for their unit.

Sgt. 1st Class Angela Niestockel, 751st Troop Command, and Sgt. 1st Class Charles O’Malley, 2113th Transportation Company, received framed certificates by Brig. Gen. Ben Adams and Mr. Charlie Harris, state intelligence and security officer. The two NCOs are credited for the program that provides among other things the physical measures designed to safeguard personnel and equipment against espionage, sabotage, damage, and theft.

A trophy was also awarded to the soldiers and will be put on display at the 2113th Transportation headquarters. In addition, a plaque will be on continual display at the Commonwealth Emergency Operations Center with a brass plate continuing the unit designation.

“This award signifies the level of professionalism that our NCOs bring to our security program,” said Harris. “Kentucky is recognized across the nation as having a great overall security strategy, so the competition between the units was fierce. I’m extremely proud to see that our troops take their security seriously and are eager to tackle this very important program.”

The 2113th Transportation Company won for outstanding Physical Security Program. The 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne) Military Intelligence Detachments received an honorable mention for their superior Operations Security Program.
