FRANKFORT, Ky. — Halloween came a little early at Boone National Guard Center last Wednesday as Kentucky Department of Military Affairs employees held a special breakfast to raise money and awareness for one of their favorite charities.

More than $250 was raised for the Kentucky Employees Charitable Campaign.  Just as important, employees raised awareness for what the KECC stands for.

“It’s important for us to do this because we want to give back to the community,” said Shannon Soard, one of the event organizers. “The Kentucky National Guard is in our heart, so we understand the importance of service and sacrifice.”

Soard comes from a Kentucky National Guard family, which probably accounts for her enthusiasm.

“This was a fun event,” she said.  “It gave us an excuse to wear our Halloween costumes to work!”

The KECC is a partnership of Kentucky state employees and six accredited state-wide charities, who together work to make a significant difference in the lives of families, friends and neighbors throughout the Commonwealth.

KECC partner charities represent more than a thousand charitable programs and agencies addressing health and human services needs in Kentucky.
