2113th Transportation Co. to depart for Iraq

Paducah, Ky. — Friends and family will gather together for a farewell ceremony in honor of the men and women of the Kentucky Army National Guard’s 2113th Transportation Company as they prepare for deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  The ceremony will take place 9 a.m. (CST) on December 6 at the Tilghman High School Auditorium, 2400 Washington Street, Paducah.

The unit will travel to Camp Shelby, Mississippi for several weeks of training before deploying overseas.  The Soldiers of the 2113th Transportation Co. will provide convoy security while in Iraq.

This is the second deployment to Iraq for the unit, which deployed in December of 2004 and returned  home on January 24th, 2006.

The Kentucky National Guard has deployed more than 12,000 Citizen-Soldiers and Airmen in support of the Global War on Terror since September 11, 2001.

EDITOR’S NOTE:  For broadcast use the term 2113th is pronounced “twenty-one thirteenth.”
